2022 Mazda CX-5 vs 2022 Ford Escape: Why Mazda?
April 29 2022,

The compact SUV segment is full of interesting options for all types of consumers, regardless of their preferences. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 comes to mind, combining truly sporty handling with elegant styling and advanced technologies. If we want an SUV that's fun to drive, the Mazda CX-5 is usually on our list. However, the Ford Escape is also on that list quite often.
While it's true that the Ford Escape is a dynamic SUV like the Mazda CX-5, the comparison isn’t as advantageous to the Escape when you take a look at the efficiency of both SUVs. There, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 really has the upper hand.
Offered out of the gate with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, the CX-5's four-cylinder engine is more powerful than most of its rivals, including the Ford Escape's 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine engine. The latter offers 181 horsepower.
Despite the power difference between the two models, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 offers better fuel economy with an average of 9.8 L/100 km in the city and 7.9 L/100 km on the highway. This engine is also offered with a cylinder deactivation system which you won’t find on the Escape and that really improves the fuel economy in certain situations. The CX-5’s four-cylinder also has a more traditional and dynamic feel than the Escape’s three-cylinder.
It isn’t surprising that the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is outselling the 2022 Ford Escape. Most buyers don’t want a three-cylinder engine and they don’t want to compromise performance for better efficiency.
Even when you look at the more powerful engines offered in both models, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 has the edge. It offers a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is nothing short of the most powerful engine in the segment. The latter offers 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque while averaging only 10.8 L/100 km in the city and 8.7 L/100 km on the highway.
This engine delivers the kind of performance you only find in a luxury SUV, but at a much more accessible price point. There is no equivalent in the Ford Escape lineup. Give us a call today to learn more!
